Me thinks this year's #1 will go down with Ralph Sampson and all the Jets #1 picks.

Yeah but I'll assume guys do that because of the fact the foreign players are going to get a SIM in the game, which is better than waiting a few years for a prospect who will be better.
That said, I'm still not personally drafting one.

I think I grabbed Saito at #20 in '07. Big reason I took the ring that year.

Will Smith, who I thought might be my third round pick was just selected, that's why I was trying to trade up.

Yeah, I thought Smith might be available with my bevy of late 2nd round picks. If you would have traded me that 18th pick , Smith is who I would have selected

So, I'm pretty thrilled to get Knapp here.
BA had him as the #4 prospect in the GCL, ahead of Zach Collier, Casey Kelly, Michael Almanzar, Anthony Hewitt, Esmailyn Gonzalez, etc.
"Knapp's stock surged just before the draft, as his raw arm strength pushed him into second round and earned him a $590,000 bonus. He arrived in the GCL by striking out six over three innings in his lone relief outing of the summer, and he showed improvement throughout the season.
Capable of reaching 97 mph with his fastball, Knapp typically pitches at 92-94. Still raw and learning how to pitch, he worked to clean up his slider and changeup. Commanding his arsenal is still a work in progress for Knapp, as is consistently repeating his delivery. However, he walked just two batters in his last three starts.
'Once he learns to locate his fastball, it will be an above-average pitch,' GCL Phillies manager Doug Mansolino said. 'He has come a long way and has gotten better at everything every time out.'"

This is officially my high-risk, high-reward draft. After going with pretty sure things in Pedro Alvarez and Yonder Alonso, I've decided to stack up on big risks after that: Tim Melville, Rashun Dixon, Hak-ju Lee, Jason Knapp, Yorman Rodriguez and Rafael Rodriguez. My reasoning is: I have a pretty stocked system already, with solid prospects at about every position, so the biggest possible value for me at this stage is to get as many potential stars in the system as possible. Even if only one or maybe two of these latter guys break through, that's still a big influx of talent.

That shouldn't be a problem this year. I'll probably have 12 relievers alone w/ decent projections.

I knew with Tony having all those picks Yorman wouldn't make it to me. Anyone want a high third round pick?

Yankees draft is done, and its time to eat. Here is what I found under my tree. I actually set out to draft a college pitcher w/ my #28 pick but obviously altered my course drastically. Jumped up to pick up Beckham who I thought had slipped way too far. Ended up finding young pitchers that I really liked at my next 3 picks. I did need some pitching depth so I'm happy.
Tim Beckham, SS Jake Odorizzi, RHP Will Smith, LHP Zeke Spruill, RHP

Probably inevitably, the guy I wanted and who I just paid Nick Evans and my 5.3 pick to NOT get, Devaris Gordon, was selected right before the pick I traded for. Time to dig and see what I can come up with . . .

MLB.com has reported this afternoon that Japanese pitcher Kenshin Kawakami has reached agreement with the Atlanta Braves.
I am going to presume that since a precedent was set with Tawaza in round 1, that Kawakami is eligible to be drafted beginnning in round 5.

I guess you can discount Kevin Goldstein as well, but it's pretty clear where he stands on Inoa: Q: If the Rangers had been successful in their attempt to sign Michel Inoa to a contract this past year, where would he rank among our current pitching prospects? Would it have been considered unfair for us to add yet another pitching prospect for other clubs to be jealous of? - Jake Goldstein: #1 or #2. Easy five-star prospect. You don't even have to think about that one. People that I have spoken with say that they have never seen anything like him. Did I mention that Goldstein likes Inoa (now Ynoa apparently)? Scouts can't talk about Ynoa without using terms like "historic" and "unprecedented." He has everything one looks for in a pitching prospect, with one scout adding, "he's the kind of guy where you get excited just watching him play catch." Tall, long, and as projectable as any pitcher in the game, Ynoa already throws in the low 90s, touches 94, and makes it look effortless with a free and easy arm action. Unlike most 17-year-old Dominicans, he has a good breaking ball with tight spin, and he already has good feel for a changeup.
Perfect World Projection: The sky is truly the limit here. This is the kind of talent that comes along once in a generation.
