I don't get the deal at all. I'm still scratching my head.
In reality, to "Get their guy" in Halladay, this is essentially the full trade:
Phillies receive: Halladay Ben Francisco Phillippe Aumont Tyson Gillies Juan Ramirez
Phillies trade: Cliff Lee Michael Taylor Kyle Drabek Travis d'Arnaud Carlos Carrasco Jason Donald Jason Knapp Lou Marson
Does this make any sense? Seriously at that point keep Lee and Halladay and go out and wreck the NL this season, is it really worth Aumont, Gillies and Ramirez to save money on a reasonable contract for an ace?

Yeah, i didnt get that either. I would have kept lee or traded him to the highest bidder. You have to believe someone would have paid more then Aumont, Gillies and Ramirez for Lee coming off the season and post season he just had.

I'm sure jacked! When we signed Figgy and knew that Halladay could be had, I was getting real excited. Well, we were not in the Halladay market, but getting Lee out of that situation is SO cool.

I'm not totally sure why the Phils did what they did, but I think the way you're stacking it is misleading.
This is closer:
Phillies receive: Roy Halladay for 4 years at under-market salary Cliff Lee for a pennant and playoff run, at below market rate 6 million in 09 to go t/w Halladay Ben Francisco Phillippe Aumont Tyson Gillies Juan Ramirez
Phillies trade: Cliff Lee for one year at below market rate Michael Taylor Kyle Drabek Travis d'Arnaud Carlos Carrasco Jason Donald Jason Knapp Lou Marson

Cliff Lee is getting thrown under the bus. Its like the Phils are saying UP YOURS. Kinda weird for a SP that saved your season to get traded....

did Lee save the Phillies season. from what I remember, the Phillies were in first place most of the year, pretty comfortably.

The Marlins were on a hotstreak in the month of august. But the Phillies Pitching imploded, Hamels sucked the majority of the year. Blanton was "the go to guy" at one point in the season. So i guess it is safe to say that he played a major role?

Hmm. Maybe these trades look a lot better now...all part of the master plan?
