Twitter depth charts have always been fair game, based on at least a dozen signings a year. You still have to piece it together from a rough idea of the weighting of past performance and some of Dan's earlier "mystery" tweets. I'd had Estevez on a list of potential claims before if I could free up a slot. (He also already had a 110 ERA+ zips last year that I'd considered.)
I'd also pieced together that another RP on there would likely project as well or better, (who I'm not going after) but off MiLB adjustments and research.

It doesn't seem 'fair game' to me that if you have Twitter you can claim guys an hour before the zips are released. Whereas those that don't have to wait for official release, use a waiver claim and take a chance they don't get them. If my claim on Estevez doesn't work it's not a big loss. Didn't know I can get a leg up on the competition by following Dan S.

In other words, you would have to look at the comp. of Blaine Neil (1.1 WAR), go through all Rockies pitchers and realize through elimination that it was referring to Carlos Estevez. It can be an advantage if you want to put the work in. I don't see how signing up for Twitter and following Zips guy is any different than buying a Baseball America subscription and signing players off the hot sheet. Twitter is free at least and everyone has access if they want. |
