Is he eligible in the BCMBL next season? Diamondbacks released catcher-infielder Jamie D'Antona. A 2003 second-round pick who batted .365/.405/.604 in 110 games at Triple-A last season, D'Antona is expected to sign with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows of the Central League in Japan. www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=1391The Yakult Swallows said Friday they have acquired the services of Arizona Diamondbacks minor league infielder Jamie D'Antona on a one-year deal worth $500,000, plus performance-based incentives. D'Antona, who played 18 games in the majors this past season, batted .365 with 21 home runs and 79 RBIs in 110 games for Triple-A Tucson in 2008. www.japanball.com/news.phtml?id=13519

I know I am being a pain because I didn't want a rule V draft; but, when was the league notified that there would not be a rule V draft ? (Read the Yankees post from last week regarding the rule V.)
I think a reasonable presumption would have been that the roster freeze was in anticipation of the rule V draft.
Even so, if there was a roster freeze, 24 hours have not elapsed for any claim made AFTER the roster freeze.
It doesn't affect the Rangers, but I'm looking out for a sense of fairness for the other GM's in this case.

BTW, three ( so far ) of my eight released players and the last two players I released before the draft ( Ryan Hanigan and Connor Graham ) have been claimed on waivers, so, at least in the Rangers case, it illustrates how planning for the rule V can be a factor for some teams.

My point being, I'm not so sure all GM's realized, based on the posts and email, that claims could be made during ( or after ) the freeze period. If most other teams did, and I'm just trying to defend my own stupidity, I plead guilty.

I should have been more specific with the rules. I'm not going to make excuses (well maybe I am), but I've been in the middle of my company making a major acquisition lately, so it's possible my communication has been less than focused.
To make it official, there will be NO RULE V this offseason. There will definitely be one next offseason, for which, we will have plenty of awareness and rule definitions.
As far as the waiver claims, I think what was in my head was different than what may have been communicated. I was thinking that everything would be back to normal today. The roster freeze was just to make sure all of the draft picks made it into the DB, and that all teams were compliant. It was not in preparation for the Rule V.
That being said, the Winter League database will be release in the next day or so. That roster will have a 1-time, Tournament only, waiver claim session. Those claims will not be produced on the main database. Once those claims are processed, the rosters are locked for the whole tournament. More details to follow.
